Actually for 5-6 months I was just like the OP.

Playing the game will only get you so far, MOst money I ever had during that time period was 60k, and that was from a lucky sup vigor drop.

Farming is something someone coming into the game would have a hard time with, because most of the builds fall into 3 catagories:
1) Too expensive to start off.
2) Too complicated to do effectively without prior experience
3) The profit is minimal and anti farm code sets in before they get alot of anything - discouraging them.

Trading is something you have to like doing and takes start up money when you do. It involves alot of sitting in towns and browsing stuff in those towns and forums, which isnt why these new players bought the game...

Its hard to find decent guilds nowadays, especially if you are new.

I'm just saying, Looking at it from the point of view of the rich person - It can be hard to understand the plight.

... Just realised that sing was probably suppose to be sign in the topic title. Nearly spat coffee all over my computer screen when I realised it.

I do have less than 10k in my storage atm, but I also have copious quantities of greens, golds, and 15k armours.

I've been in GW since the day Prophecies was released, have six toons and deleted six more. Never had more than 20k at a time.

I don't buy, sell or trade anything, just play with whatever I find. If I can't use something, I sell it to the merchant or give it away.

Farmed up one set of 15k druids armor for my R/N, then tossed the vest, because I thought the collectors vest with the skull went better with her necro side.

Just an old ex-hippie and beach bum, running my game with my kids and grandkids, and having fun.

1. Iffy on this one, I pobably have 4k ish in gold scattered across characters(I have 8 now..) some rare materials, but nothing special.
2 Collectors weapons ftw. I have some greens from the divine path, but nothing else.
3. Most of the 15k Kurzik warrior. Got it mostly when amber was 3k+ a piece. All my other characters have 1.5, although I did buy new armor for my elementalist because I was sick of looking at him in his fire dress.

Been playing for 16 months, about a week after release. 1200+ hours methinks...

I mostly attribute it to the fact that I have deleted a few characters in the past (the number 5 comes inot mind), so I only have 2 who have had birthdays. Meh. I think it's funny that I probably have the Higest Time to wealth ratio in the whole game. I have been playing consistently for the past few months, much more so than I have, so maybe I'll get that total up.

Wow, i feel n00b now...

Maybe its because i never dedicated as much time as most of you guys. i have a total of like 600+ hours only. I thought playing 3+ ours a day on weekends was a lot :-(

So i guess i should just wait till next summer before i try to get rich then, when i have time to kill.

lol keep up the "singing" i wanna see if there is anybody else like me.

EDIT: I had one green once, by pure ;uck. Chkkr's Pincers, which i sold for 5k *sigh*

Umm, this is gonna sound harsh...

But how can you people be complaining about money? "You can only make money by farming" argument is BULL! It's called, dont spend cash at every new town and opportunity you get. Guess what?!?! It's called SAVING!! And guess what what? It's similar to real life. So what better way to learn then in a game?!

My VERY first character that i took through Tyria over a year ago was well off. Going through the regular story line, doing random side quests as i got them and being wise on when to get better armor or new skills etc, had my character WELL supported and easily able to get 15k armor. Pick up EVERYTHING that you can, and sell EVERYTHING you possibly can part with. Salvage materials as often as possible. These few things will gain you several thousand in a few days, and the salvaged materials will either go towards your future armors, or can be sold at lump sums at the Material Traders. I waited till materials got higher than usual, then sold materials often. Being frugal with your spending is also vital. A scroll here, a material there, and key here, or a "paid run" there:: It adds up. Learn when NOT to spend money.

My first character was 15 days old when he was about 90% of the way to affording 15k armor.

No really people its that simple. You don't believe me? Start a new character and be as stingy as POSSIBLE with that character in terms of money spending and penny pinching. Spend nothing, sell everything. By the time you hit endgame with him, you will have a good haul of gold/loot.

cheers!

EDIT:: BTW. What a HORRIBLY baited trap for all the rich folk to show off. LoL. I just hope my advice gets through the hundreds of "i are so rich!" posts... LoL'd again!

Signed, for one, two and three.

Basically I've been playing since the March Beta event for Prophecies, however in May, my ISP decided to have a breakdown that lasted until July, then again, late August to October 31st the same problem.

Later in the year in December it started to happen again, only now the net would work at night but not during the day. SOmething to do with the heat and sunlight and things.

It continued until early June, it was fixed finally, then our net started going out due to our tower being crooked. We live in the middle of nowhere basically and need a 75 foot tall tower to get 1.2MBps net.

Due to all of thsi going on, Guild Wars had died around May last year and continued on through until off and on from October 31st last year up until recently when I started to pull back into it finally due to net that would allow me to play.

I have six characters, two level twenties, and have spent the 30k I had on armor for my two new ones. Soon to be seven or eight with Nightfall.

I may or may not end up with 15k, I've been starting to look into making a build to help me farm places off and on just a bit to get some materials mostly, gold will come as it comes slowly and surely as my friend and I play together.

That's my story, sad to see such a veteran such as myself missing out on so much time really. If it weren't for the problems I may have more than two level 20 characters. I haven't even beaten the game with my first, also for awhile in July last year as I made it to Mines of Malodune, my video card started to reject my new PC and kept freezing up on Guild Wars and other High-graphic games...

Main Char - E/Mo 20 - Minse of Malodune - Currently in Cantha
2nd Mo/Me - 15 - Frost Gate
3rd W/Mo - 13 - Lion's Arch - About to enter Cantha
4th A/N - 20 - Leveled up in 20 Hours, Ran from LA back to Ascalon City for fun.
5th Mo/W - 13 - Beacon's Perch
6th Mo/W - Cantha - 16 - About to go to Keining Center

I have also had a Ranger, a Necro and a mesmer of my own but deleted them to make way for my Sin, my Mo/W and my W/Mo... I have had alot of characters just haven't gone anywhere with them in so long. Now I'm making up for all of that.

EDIT: I have played for 429 hours and 22 minutes over all characters, add about twenty or thirty more hours for those lost in the beta events and ones I have deleted.

I have over 10K, more like close to 600K. I have never solo farmed the uw, or fow, never got an ecto drop. All desert farming earned my gold, and only started farming about 8months after the release of prophecies. I started playing during the second beta weekend for prophecies.

I have perfect gold weapons, and turned regular weapons into perfect weapons, gold means nothing, only weapon skins(if I find one I like), otherwise I merch most of my golds unless I want a mod from one, or feel I could give it to a new player or guildy or friend to use.

As for armor, I see no need to buy 15K armor, maybe cheap on my part, maybe not. Personally fashion of my characters is not big on my list, however if I should see something I like, I will buy it, but not 15K armor, ever.

Well lets see now I've been playing since servers went live, thats over a year now and abit

But sadly I have more then 10k and I have a near perfect weapon (14^50. Before I get people saying thats not perfect, Sadly you don't realise the games math doesn't really define 14% and 15%; Oh and its near perfect)

Had a few decent weapons, sold most off.
Have far to many greens

But hey no 15k armour, I think that idea is stupid.

I've been playing since release (of Prophesies), have 15K armor (some of it dyed black) for all of my main characters who want it, 80k in the bank (at the moment), a nice collection of purchased mini-pets, a guildhall full of NPCs that nobody helped me buy (sniffle), and I have NEVER, EVER farmed.

So... no.
